Business Personal Property Filing Deadline for 2020 Changes in Texas
*This post has been updated as of 4-19-2020*
IMPORTANT: Beginning in 2020, the new business personal property filing deadline for all businesses will be April 15th. This change which is written into SB2 comes after the state changed the deadline to April 1st for 2019. The initial 30-day extended deadline will now be May 15, 2020.
Texas law will require business owners or their property tax consultants to complete and submit the rendition form to the appropriate local jurisdiction or before April 1st. If a business or tax consultant fails to do so or if the rendition is turned in after the deadline, there will be a 10% penalty on the owner’s tax bill for the current year. The historical business personal property filing date has fluctuated, so the extra 14 days afforded by the new “property tax reform bill” are welcomed by many owners across the state.
