Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) has extended the filing deadline for business personal property tax to May 15th as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

All renditions this year in the state were supposed to be “rendered” or filed by April 15th (a change from the 2019 filing date). Businesses and agents will now have an additional 30 days to file their returns.

The Harris County Appraisal District has asked property owners to file electronically to continue the social distancing measures the county has put in place.

“I decided to grant an extension to May 15 because so many businesses have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Roland Altinger, chief appraiser, said in a March 24 statement.

The Chief Appraiser also said an additional 15-day extension can be issued if asked for prior to the May 15 deadline if just cause is presented.
