Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the state of New Jersey has extended the business personal property tax filing deadline 30 days to at least May 1.

The New Jersey Supreme Court issued an order that extended the deadline earlier this week. The order applies to the County Board of Taxations across the state. The County Board has exclusive jurisdiction of tax appeals where the assessed value of a property is at or below $1,000,000.

The order also includes the State Tax Court which has the same jurisdiction for tax appeals where the assessed value of the property is above $1,000,000.

This is one of the first big state rulings to issue an extension as other states consider measures to help the property tax filing system.
